Information about Bulldogs.

Commonly known as the English Bulldog or the British Bulldog, the Bulldog originated, as its name suggests, in Britain. First bred in the 16th Century, the Bulldog is a cross between the Mastiff and the Pug, and was bred for the sport of baiting bulls. This barbaric sport was banned in 1835.

Despite their somewhat dour appearance, Bulldogs are in fact friendly, non aggressive dogs who prefer the quiet life. They are known to be friendly, affectionate and loyal and make excellent pets.

Despite the fact that they were originally bred to bait and ultimately kill bulls, any aggression has long since been bred out of them.

Although not for everyone, and requiring more care because of their health issues than most dogs, the Bulldog remains a firm favourite amongst dog lovers the world over. They are however not an ideal dog for the novice owner because of those health issues.
